Family Caregivers Find Welcome Relief & Respite (07/01/2004)

Erdenheim, PA July, 2004 "The Passing of former President Ronald Reagan, due in large part to the devastating effects of Alzheimer's Disease, has brought national attention to what once was considered a family-only matter. According to the National Survey on Health Care and Other Elder Care Issues (The Family Circle/Kaiser Family Fdn, Sept., 2000), a large share of adults with a parent 65+ reported being actively involved in the daily lives of their aging parent, with over 50% reporting that their parent has physical or mental health problems, or both. Over 50% check in on their parent and 42% visit their parent at least once a week. Kent Griswold, President of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE commented, "Many times we are contacted to provide assistance with homecare as a last resort, after the family has been 'going it alone' for far too long. Although caring for a loved one is always taxing, caring for someone with dementia can be devastating. The loss is gradual, culminating with total lack of recognition of the family caregiver. My hope is that the President's death will help to highlight the importance and need for accepting assistance early before family caregiving takes it toll on the family caregiver." Griswold, continued, "Though the study concentrates on parents, it is also important not to forget the individuals caring for a spouse. As the population ages, often the task of caring falls on the healthier spouse. Without respite, invariably the healthy spouse soon will burn out or be in need of assistance themselves." Help is available. GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, the World's Oldest, Multi-National Non-Medical, Homecare Company works closely with the Alzheimer's Association in all of the areas it serves, providing both short and long-term respite. Caregivers referred by GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE have a wide range of professional experience caring for older individuals, including those with forms of dementia such as Alzheimer's Disease, as well as people recovering from illness and surgery, and those living with conditions such as Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Cancer and AIDS. They work with people living in their own homes as well as with those who are living temporarily or permanently in facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals or group homes. GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE to Celebrate 20 Years of Service to the Community (04/01/2002)

Erdenheim, PA April 2002 This spring, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, the World's Oldest, Multi-National, Non-Medical Homecare Companies, celebrates its 20th anniversary. "It is hard to believe that two decades have gone by since the company was started with just a few Caregivers and Clients," said Kent Griswold President of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE. "Reaching the 20-year milestone could not have happened without the thousands of compassionate, dedicated Caregivers we have referred to Clients and the office directors, managers, and staff who have supported them." Kent Griswold's mother, Mrs. Jean Griswold, realized that many people who needed help with routine daily activities had no family or close friends to assist them on a regular basis, launched the company in 1982. GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE was designed to help maintain the dignity, comfort, safety and happiness of its Clients by referring Caregivers to provide affordable, one-on-one companionship, personal care, homemaking, and respite services. Today, the business has an international presence and has more than 70 offices located in 12 states. The company, which has referred over 7,500 Caregivers to assist more than 50,000 individuals, has flourished because it has put the focus on quality of care rather than on maximizing profits. "The Caregivers we refer are exceptionally compassionate, reliable individuals who feel strongly about making a difference in people's lives by building relationships with them," said GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE Vice President Dr. Lori Griswold, a long-term care expert. "Our priority is to make sure they are compensated and supported properly so that they can continue to provide such excellent care." Caregivers referred by GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE have a wide range of professional experience caring for older individuals, people recovering from illness and surgery, and those living with conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Cancer and AIDS. They work with people living in their own homes as well as with those who are living temporarily or permanently in facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals or group homes. The company's services are available on an hourly, overnight or live-in basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE implements a stringent screening process for Caregivers that include criminal background checks and a thorough reference-checking procedure. Caregivers earn higher than the industry wages to attract and retain the highest quality people and rates are kept as affordable as possible. For those in need of assistance but without the means, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE contributes part of its profits to The Special Care Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Foundation provides free or subsidized care on a limited basis to qualified individuals who need homecare help but who cannot afford it. GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE recently expanded its services outside the United States by opening offices in Seoul, South Korea, and affiliating with HOME CARE PREMIER in Mexico. While GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE's primary focus in the United States is caring for people needing assistance with basic daily activities, HOME CARE PREMIER largely serves seriously ill individuals who need care due to Mexico's chronic shortage of acute and long-term hospital beds.
