As GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE's founder, Dr. Jean Griswold has been the driving force behind the company's success. At a time when very few women pursued degrees of higher learning, Jean Griswold was one of Rutgers University's first students to graduate from its Douglas College with an undergraduate degree in economics and business administration. She then went on to earn a master's degree in education and personnel and guidance. She graduated with honors and is a life-long member of the Kappa Delta Pi honor society. In 2006, she received the honorary degree of
Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, from Holy Family University located in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Griswold worked as a geriatric counselor, guidance counselor, reading specialist, and Assistant Director of Admissions for her alma mater Douglas College, all the while raising her family. Then fate intervened with what has become a life-altering reality--Jean Griswold was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She chose to continue with the calm determination that had characterized her life until then and, as she likes to say, not to waste precious time but to get on with her life.
Dr. Griswold has earned numerous awards. They include the Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for commitment to business excellence and leadership; the Seattle-based Giraffe Award for "sticking her neck out" to create a model service business; the Spirit of Philadelphia Award for "caring and unselfish commitment of time and energy"; the Capitol Award for leadership, management and business excellence; the Multiple Sclerosis National Achievement Award; the Philadelphia Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the National ATHENA Award presented to an individual who has attained and personified the highest level of professional excellence. Her achievements have been highlighted in Forbes, Success, Nation's Business and Entrepreneur magazines and on NBC-TV's "Today" show. Dr. Griswold has also served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, and as director of the Special Care Foundation, which provides financial assistance to persons who cann ot afford the care that they need.
Dr. Griswold's dedication to her business and the Clients it serves earned her recognition as a role model in the books Women of Courage: Living an Impossible Dream, Winning Roles for Career-Minded Women, Women of Spirit: Stories of Courage from the Women Who Lived Them, and People with MS with the Courage to Give.
Dr. Griswold is a member of the American Society of Professional and Executive Women, National Association of Female Executives, Society for the Advancement of Management, American Association of University Women and American Society of Aging.
Dr. Griswold and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Lincoln T. Griswold, have three sons and seven grandchildren.
